O estúdio Kotaro Horiuchi desenvolveu o projecto de renovação da imagem de uma pequena boutique de queijos, que é também restaurante, em Paris, o Salon du Fromage. Esta loja pouco convencional afasta-se bastante das tradicionais boutiques, aproximando-se, por outro lado, de um ambiente que encoraja os clientes a explorarem o espaço e a aventurarem-se. O espaço, que pertence a um edifício construído no século XVIII, reparte-se por dois andares com paredes que os dividem em inúmeras salas intimistas e semelhantes a cavernas. Contudo, a cor branca prevalece, tanto na estrutura como nos objectos, tornando-o amplo e desafogado. A loja, localizada no andar inferior, está revestida de pedestais cilíndricos que variam na altura e na largura e exibem cerca de 350 variedades de queijo em pequenos frigoríficos. Os candeeiros assemelham-se a pequenos cubos de queijo e emanam uma luz serena e muito suave, transformando o ambiente das salas de forma algo dramática. To design from the limited shelf space, to allow the coexistence of people, flowers and equipment, and at the same time maximize the storage space that doesn’t conflict with the movement of clients and staff, we came up with this layout.
 Vertically arranged shelves, disposed radially from the wall corner, form a layer on the ceiling, encouraging the activities of the people and ensuring the freedom of floral display.
The void enables an easy assembly of the shelves. The radial disposition of the planes will create voids of different dimensions which provide a good versatility when exhibiting flower arrangements of distinct sizes.
This display and the planes that extend to outside, create a interesting facade that will attract the passersby, and with that, new customers.

With another season of Dexter quickly approaching, it seems appropriate to showcase an office that has ‘Dark Passenger’ written all over it. Architects Kotaro Horiuchi designed this space to be less of a kill room, and more of a productive working space with plastic sheeting.Called “Membrane in Stratum,” which is essentially a membrane within layers. This rings pretty true when you see visuals of the space and its ability to shift at the drop of a hat.
Each area is zoned by these clear sheets in order to create efficient and separate spaces without having to add on walls and take up valuable space. Work environments are adaptable on the fly in this type of space, and unlimited in composition by simple tables.The only thing left to worry about in this space is whether or not you might end up on a tiny slide.

For a traditional Japanese restaurant in the underground commercial space under Nagoya Station, we started by analyzing the time transversal components of architecture, themes such as metric, gradation, rhythm and transparency, giving them a contemporary twist.
We used one of the primordial volumes to spur the feeling of familiarity, the cube.
By reducing it to a framed form we were able to provide it with the transparency we wanted to achieve.
This thin frame, and the graduation of the cube size and frame thickness, creates much like a veil for the facades, one that extends inside to the walls and to the ceiling, to craft a unified whole.
This veil effect is achieved just by using sheer numbers of the framed cube, providing the intended transparency with a small degree of translucency.
To improve the familiar environment, we took up a vernacular element of the Japanese culture the Shoji, which we apply to parts of the wooden lattice.
This beautiful paper element will give us a higher translucency in the facades but will also configure the lighting fixtures, which are all bound by the form of the cube.
Depth is also introduced here, as the shoji, set up in different planes, create the dimensional sense of several layers.
There is the feeling of a boundary, one that creates a sense of reserve and privacy for the restaurants customers and a sense of curiosity and enthrallment to passersby.
On the other hand the wooden lattice can also have a hard horizontal plane, that will act as a shelf, for storage and décor.
Finally, we introduced the furniture, following the same precepts as we set in beginning.
It is the furniture that will introduce the metric and rhythm into the composition and the ease of use these themes allow – all the circulation is straightforward, giving a great sense of organization and functionality to the project.

A wall with curved surfaces was designed to softly wrap around the space on the ground and 1st floor of the existing building of the 18th century.
Pierce this wall of the space for sell the cheese on ground floor and the space for eat the cheese on the 1st floor in the existing building, it integrally changes to the space like the cave of the cheese. In the very narrow space of the ground floor, refrigerated display units with different diameter and heights cylindrical, according to each 350 cheese, are placed like customers can walk around to appreciate cheese in this space.
Customers select and taste anxious cheese and they can find and savor them in the space. Pass through a wall with curved surfaces and go up the stairs, there is a restaurant on 1st floor. Freely create open kitchen area to suit various application by various cube kitchen table.
The space is furnished with tables and chairs and customers can select wines while enjoying a raclette or a cheese fondue.
The restaurant with an open kitchen has been design to host various events such as cheese seminars, wine classes or cooking classes.

A wall with 3 curved surfaces was designed to softly wrap around itself at the center of the space on the ground and 1st floor of the existing building, built during the 18th century.
The surface of the house ia a little old, perhaps can let people think of the past.
Inside the house, light yellow lights fill the whole space, creating a romantic atmosphere.
The unique droplight attractive people’s gaze.
The light shining from “candies”, so beautiful.
This is really a fashion and sweet design.

日本での本格的な活動を開始
堀内功太郎建築設計事務所代表　堀内功太郎さん

これまでオランダ、英国、スイス、オーストリア、フランスなど海外の設計事務所で設計業務に携わり、多様な経験を積んだ。
地元名古屋でも頑張っていこうと決心し、新事務所を開設、日本での本格的な活動を始動した。「やってやれないことはない。いつ実行するかが重要」をモット—に行動してきた。
この名古屋でも今までの経験をフルに生かしながら挑戦していきたいと、バイタリティ—を覗かせる。
これからは名古屋〜東京〜パリ事務所を行き来する状況の中で、コンペやプロジェクトに参加できる機会があれば、

Employees at an office in Nagoya, Japan, might literally feel like they’re working in a bubble.
The 100-sq-m workspace is filled with 275m of plastic sheeting, hanging from walls and suspended from ceilings. Pockets of plastic create droplets of texture, while sheets divide the space into zones, like walls.
The plastic pieces can be moved as needed, creating new areas for meetings or events. Architect Kotaro Horiuchi says the concept was inspired by membranes in the human brain.

名古屋事務所を丸の内へ移転
堀内功太郎建築設計
堀内功太郎建築設計事務所（堀内功太郎代表）は、名古屋事務所を中区の栄から丸の内へ移転させ、オープニングパーティーを実施した。
オープニングパーティーには、関係者約120人が参加し、アートギャラリー的な事務所で歓談した。
このパーティーは、パリで独立した3周年記念と合わせて執り行われた。
堀内代表＝写真＝はあいさつで「名古屋を離れて15年。海外の建築に携わってきた。各国の建築実施方法に違いはあるが、
建築が新しい形として生まれてくる以上、今までに培った経験を生かしながら、上手く表現できるように努力し、
大きなものから住宅まで幅広く挑戦していく」と抱負を語った。
新事務所は、スタッフ9人でスタートし、今後も増員する予定。新住所は名古屋市中区丸の内2ノ15ノ28（4階）。

パリ郊外の特徴的で広大な敷地と大部分を占める林にひっそりと佇む住宅として計画した。住宅は家族の住居以外にも、週末にはパリで暮らす人々をゲストとして受け入れる週末の家となる。
日本人の妻が日本の文化を異国の地フランスにて伝達しようという試みから、週末のみパリ郊外のこの住宅で日本語教室や日本食の料理教室、他にも様々な日本の文化に対する教室の開講、そして人々を日本の文化と接することのできる週末くつろげる家として設定した。

全体をひとつのリビングでつなぐ。広大な敷地の周囲をぐるりと回遊できる廊下のようにリビングが配置される。このリビングはこの住宅の通路でもあり、家族のリビングでもあり、ゲストのリビングでもある。
日本語教室や料理教室など日本文化伝達の場もすべてこのリング上のリビングに並べられ、和のアクティビティの輪となる。
他室へのアクセスの基軸となるのがこのリビングで、人の生活の中でのパブリック要素を持つ「食」を抽出して連続させた。
食を中心に生まれるコミュニケーションは、日本という異文化をフランスという異国の地で互いに共通の要素として人々は集い、新たな交流を楽しむ。

The siste is located in Maintenon 65km southwest of Paris, France. The Residential suburb of Paris inhabited afamily of three married couples and children.
Spontaneous grounds surrounded by vast grasslandsare and forests open as a place of rest for the weekend of Parisien, give healing to life in the city while enjoying the open-air bath in nature.

This residential is called “The Residential of Roof”, is composed of the entire roof from regulation inherited in this region traditionally that 40-degree slope of the roof and 7m height, in another house to make the inside of the roof, while protecting the traditionalregulation of forms, tried to create another inside garden between the roof and house.
The inside housing is divided into two parts living-restaurant for guests and residences for clients,are connected by kitchen.

under a roof. located in the southwest of paris, in the rural area of maintenon, france, the surrounding landscape consists of grasslands,

18世紀の既存建築物の1階と2階部分に自由に曲面を描くように3次曲面の1枚の壁がこれらの空間を柔らかく包む。
既存建築物内の上下に積層するチーズを売る空間とチーズを食べる空間を貫き、一体的にチーズのカーヴのような空間に変化する。
1階のすごく小さなスペースには、その中でチーズを鑑賞しながら回遊できるように直径・高さが異なる円柱状の冷蔵展示台を350種類のそれぞれのチーズに合わせて点在配置させている。
気になったチーズを実際に手に取って試食したり、自分にあったチーズを見つける。
3次曲面の壁をくぐって階段を上ると、2階にはレストランがある。
キューブ状の各種の機能を持った調理台でオープンキッチンの領域をそれぞれの用途に合わせて自由に作る。
その余白部分に机と椅子を配置し、チーズフォンデュやラクレットなどをそれらに適したワインと共にゆっくりと味わう。
オープンキッチン・レストランはチーズセミナーや料理教室やワイン教室、その他イベントにも対応し使われ方の異なる、
空間にそれぞれの異なった表情を与える。
チーズが入り、人が入ると、空間に賑わいのある色身を与えてくれる。
奥の空間はチーズの熟成庫と共に、従業員用の調理準備や休憩室として、または料理教室などの拡張スペースとしても対応する。

パリのチーズのブティックとレストラン「Salon du Fromage」 の為にデザインされた椅子。紙を簡単に折り曲げて出来た模 型のように、45cm の正方形 4 枚を直角に折っていっただけの 簡単な椅子。形状は至ってシンプルで、どこにでもありそう な椅子だが、今までどこにもなかった極限に薄い椅子を実現 させた。見た目は薄く壊れてしまいそうなほど繊細な椅子だ が、車のボディに使用するガラス繊維を使うことで強度を保っ ている。

Salon du Fromage HISADA のためにデザインした照明。 キューブ状の照明によって創り出された薄い影を、いくつか の大きさの異なる円で切り抜いて、そこから漏れる様々な丸 い光によって、その薄い影を削って、影自体を調整する。い くつかの照明で創り出された影の集積は、影の濃度を濃くし たり薄くしたりと変化をつけ、それを切り取る幾十もの円で 影を多様に操作する。厚さ 6mm のコーリアンを熱で溶かし て折り曲げ溶接していくので、光に照らされると、乳白色の 透明さを保ちながら、奇麗なつなぎ目のないエッジをつくり、 つくり出される影にも反映される。

Salon du Fromage HISADA のためにデザインしたテーブル。 紙を簡単に折り曲げて出来た模型のように、厚さ 3mm の 75cm の正方形 3 枚を直角に折っていったテーブル。強度は ガラス繊維を使うことで保っている。テーブルの天板にはい くつかの大きさの異なる穴をあけ、それぞれのグラスの大き さに合った穴に入れたり、植栽などを入れたり、チーズフォ ンデュやラクレットのコンロの配線などを穴から下へ落とし たりする。

Kotaro HORIUCHI established his own firm, kotaro horiuchi architecture in Tokyo, Nagoya and Paris in 2009, after gaining experience through world renowned architecture firms such as : DPA – Dominique Perrault Architecture (France), Mecanoo Architecten (The Netherlands), and PPAG – Popelka Poduschka Architekten (Austria).

MISSION STATEMENT
As an up-coming young new generation architect. Kotaro HORIUCHI works on multiple projects around the world. His projects include both new construction and renovations of residentials, retails, offices, public housings, hotel, and spas.

A wall with 3 curved surfaces was designed to softly wrap around itself at the center of the space on the ground and 1st floor of the existing building, built during the 18th century.
Inside the building, customers can see the superposition of cheese selling spaces and degustation spaces through the holes in the walls, like trough a piece(space) of cheese cellar.
In the very narrow space of the ground floor, customers can enjoy the view while tasting cheese: a large refrigerated display cabinet displaying 350 varieties of cheese.
Customers can select cheeses in the refrigerated cabinet and savor them in the room.
Stairs nested inside the central curved wall give access to the restaurant on the first floor. The furniture is square shaped and the room has view on an open kitchen. The space is furnished with tables and chairs and customers can select wines while enjoying a raclette or a cheese fondue.
The restaurant with an open kitchen has been design to host various events such as cheese seminars, wine classes or cooking classes.

Easy to fold, just like a thin paper, this chair is made of four squares of 45cm side and 3mm thick. The chair is made of fiberglass to give strength to the structure.

This table was created for the “Salon du Fromage”.
Easy to fold, just like thin paper, this table is made of three squares of 75cm side and 3mm thick.
The table is made of Fiberglass to give strength to the structure. The countertop of the table can be pierced with holes of various sizes that can be just covered with glass to match the decor, hold a plant in its pot, a raclette grill or a cheese fondue set with its portable cooking stove. (cable can be easily passed through the holes and connected to a plug on the floor)

This lighting was created for the “Salon du Fromage”.
Shaped like a cube, this lightning has many round holes of various sizes that create interesting lights and shadows in the room. The accumulation of these lightning reminds the holes in the walls and gives a unique atmosphere to the space.
Cut in 6 mm thick thermoformed Corian®, it has a milky color that let the light glow trough the material. The design, without neither juncture nor sharp angles, is soft to the eye.

This residential is called “The Residential of Roof”, is composed of the entire roof from regulation inherited in this region traditionally that 40-degree slope of the roof and 7m height, in another house to make the inside of the roof, while protecting the traditionalregulation of forms, tried to create another inside garden between the roof and house.
The inside housing is divided into two parts living-restaurant for guests and residences for clients,are connected by kitchen.
Each room has inside space that open to nature.

リビングの中央部分は分離でき、妻の発表会のためのコンサートホールやホームパーティ、夫の趣味であるシアターホール、レンタルで時間貸しや、ギャラリーや音楽学生の下宿等の賃貸住宅やゲストハウスとしても利用できる。

The site is located in Chatou, 14,4 km west of Paris, FRANCE. Around this area is known as a quiet residential area of the riverbank of the lower stream in the Seine.

This house is two-household house of couple households (one child + couple) which live the life without shoes and their parents households which live the life of shoes.
The minimum residence functions fit in one long-slender living, and it bends according to the form of the site. It corresponds to the changing family structure while living is occasionally divided and it occasionally becomes one space. Each feels sense of family while each room takes distance, a daily life is led considering single elongated living as a base of life space.

An elongated living is loose ramp length 50 m, and distinguishes indoor shoes and shoes. Unless access of each room passes along this living, it is unmovable. It lives by always walking along this living. If you walk along living, distance with families, parents, children, and neighborhood will be adjusted because space spreading, narrowing and carries out strength. Moreover, the shadow of facade given change to interior space, and the scene from interior space also brings about change.

The central portion of living is separable, it can use also as concert hall for a wife, home party, theater hole of husband’s hobby, rental housing and guest houses, gallery, and musicology student’s lodgings.

著名建築家や技術者、研究者、学生など約1万人が、世界中から集まるUIA大会（世界建築会議）は、世界最大級の建築イベントです。
およそ1週間の大会では、講演やセミナー、プレゼンテーション、ワークショップ、展覧会、ツアーなど、大会テーマに基づく多彩なプログラムが開かれ、これからの建築や都市のあり方を探っていきます。
UIA大会は、1948年にスイス・ローザンヌで初めて開催されて以来、ほぼ3年に一度、世界の各都市で開かれています。日本での開催は、24回目となる今回が初めてです。（UIA2011公式HPより抜粋）

今回の国際ワークショップ「UIA2011東京大会ユース・ジャンボリー」では、世界中で建築を学ぶ学生160人と若手の建築実務者を対象に、「KIZUNA- agenda of Tokyo beyond 3.11 -」のテーマのもと、3月11日（金）の東日本大震災の被害から学び、未来の建築・都市の可能性を議論する国際ワークショップが行われました。

堀内功太郎は、1978年名古屋市生まれ。明治大学大学院修了。2003年からオランダのMecanoo Architecten、オーストリアの PPAG -Popelka Poduschka Architekten、フランスの DPA – Dominique Perrault Architectureを経て、2009年堀内功太郎建築設計事務所を名古屋・東京・パリに設立。2011年パリより帰国し名古屋を起点に活動中。
